To be honest, until a few months ago we hadn't heard of the name Lindsey Stirling until we were introduced to her music via an online forum. But apparently she appeared on a season of America's Got Talent and was dubbed the hip-hop violinst. Well now in 2012, she's released her self-titled debut album.
The opening track Electric Daisy Violin begins quietly before bursting into life. Zi-Zi Journey continues the paces and sounding as if it belongs as an opening theme to an animated show or video game whilst Crystalize introduces a dup-step element into the mix.
Song Of The Caged Bird slows the tempo of the album with a feeling to match while Moon Trance brings a little bit of mysticism to the album. Next we have Minimal Beat which does exactly what it says in the title as it there is only a basic bass line throughout the track. Transcendence brings back the hip hop elements of the album again which continues through into the neighbouring track Elements.
Shadows is a mid-tempo track that you could actually easily see as background music in a game like WipeOut. From here, the tempo rises for Spontaneous Me and Anti Gravity before returning with what could be seen as a mirror of the opening track (Stars Align).
It's an interesting album that seems to rise then fall in a perfect curve although the final track does leave you expecting something to come after that. The album itself features 6 previously released but remastered tracks and 6 new ones. It's not a combination that many would probably associate together and you wouldn't think that it would work. But it does, and in a way it does bring an instrument that many probably only associate with classical music to another genre of people
