It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from these guys but now we get to hear their latest single, Angel In Blue Jeans, taken from the forthcoming album, Bulletproof Picasso.

For us, it’s not quite there for us. The ‘ohhhhh’ at the start and found in the choruses are all to familiar in the last year and we soon found ourselves longing for the end of the song just to get away from it. The song itself minus that is not too different from previous releases, so even the casual listener will probably recognise it. But for us, it’s just lacking something of those songs Hey, Soul Sister and Drive By.

In fact, this could be seen as a country version of the latter.

Train // Mermaid

Considering that they’re just about to go on tour in the UK, it’s probably about the right time to release another track from their current album California 37 and it comes in the form of Mermaid.

We’re of split opinion on it. On one hand we’re loving the rhythm of the track with images of people (probably most likely women) having a little wiggle of the hips along to it. Then on the other hand, there is something in the lyrics that we don’t like. We can’t decide whether or it’s because it’s got feeling of a summer that we don’t know of and that it’s coming our in the dreich month of February…or maybe it’s telling us that love can just wash up on a beach given that it is the month of love.

The shore is close at hand but we think that this track may just be floundering in the shallows.

Train // Bruises Feat. Ashley Monroe

Somehow we’re not feeling the love for this track. It’s not got that automatic click factor that many of their past track have had. Don’t get us wrong, it’s a good track and the combined vocals work really well. But maybe the click factor has gone because the last few tracks have been a more quicker tempo where as this is a little calmer.

Not something you could listen to a lot, but once in a while wouldn’t hurt

50 Ways To Say Goodbye is the second single from Train’s recent album California 37

It feels just slightly quicker in tempo to their last single Drive By. We love the mariachi sound to the verse and bits included in the chorus, before hitting the chorus like a train (yes we know, really bad joke!) with a sound of rock pop track. Maybe we should be more worried about the excuses…sorry, ways to say goodbye, that they come up with.

Another great little number from and one that it’s likely to be hanging around playlists and ears for a while to come like previous tracks.

Train // Drive By

The last time we can remember hearing about Train was when they released the hit Hey, Soul Sister (apparently there has been a few releases inbetween then and now but they seemed to have slipped under the radar). However, now they’re ready to release their new single, Drive By.

Melody wise, it sounds a little like a certain Good Feeling by Flo Rida. Otherwise, it’s a fun, upbeat, foot tapping song that seems does leave you wanting more as it just seems to ‘drive by’ at high speed. Instrumentally, it does sound very simple: guitar, drums and handclaps (not to mention the little piano at the bridge), yet for it being so simple, it does work well.

It feels and sounds like that it very radio friendly and that it should get some attention. You can just imagine playing this tune in the car with the windows down in the sunshine….just maybe not in the middle of January!
