It’s already been named as the fastest selling single of 2015 in the UK (for the moment, anyway) but Ellie Goulding makes a return to the chart with a little number lifted from the forthcoming Fifty Shades of Grey.

There’s almost a beautiful contrast to the song with Goulding’s almost innocent sounding vocals paired with the lyrics having more of an inkling to the film and of course book that it’s taken from. Our one grips with the track though is how similar it’s sounding in comparison to past single releases so in that way, we don’t hear anything that we haven’t heard before, yet we find ourselves enjoying the track.

Anyways…Mr Grey will see you now

Ellie Goulding // Goodness Gracious

Goulding for us can be a little bit hit of a miss, but her latest offering in Goodness Gracious is getting the hit button from us.

There is something about this track that makes you smile and have a wee dance along. Although we say smile, some of the lyrics hint more at sadness. Bit of a summery tune too, just what we need during these last weeks of winter.

It's probably considering something of an honour to be asked to sing the charity single for Children in Need and this year, it falls on Ellie Goulding.

This year's single is actually a cover version of The Waterboys song from 1990 although at a slightly slower tempo than the original. This doesn't detract from the song. In fact, at the tempo that Goulding sings it at, it suits her.

It definitely tugs at the heart strings. And it's for charity....what's not to love about it?

Ellie Goulding // Burn

Let us be honest. There is something about Ellie Goulding that we would like to like but it seems we never manage to find what. And sadly again, with the latest offering from the soon to be re-packaged album Halcyon (renamed Halcyon Days)

It a way it reminds us of Anything Could Happen and in some instances there is this annoying feeling with the chorus that although catchy, we feel that it would soon touch on annoying if you were to hear it constantly. Yet interestingly, we’d love to hear an acoustic version on the track as we think it could work.

Not one for us sadly but may do well in the charts and with fans

It’s been a while since Ellie Goulding released anything (we can’t help thinking that the last track from her was the cover of Your Song), but now she’s revealed her latest offering in the form of Anything Could Happen ahead of her new album Halcyon.

There’s just something about the song that we don’t like. It just doesn’t seem to be on par with her previous works. It feels flat, doesn’t seem to go anywhere and the repeated chorus of Anything Could Happen does start to get annoying in the song’s short lived life. Actually we’d put it on par with the annoying version of the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star used in a car advert not so long ago.

Hard to sort of gauge how this will be taken. For us though we’re not impressed with it

Ellie Goulding // Your Song

Adverts have always used popular or classic songs in order to promote their goods, either using the original version of the song or getting it brought right up to date with current artists. And in the case of the most recent John Lewis Christmas campaign, that's exactly what's happened.

Elton John's classic track Your Song has been brought up to date by Ellie Goulding. Sadly though, the song feels stripped of all emotion that made the original so loveable. That may have something to do with Ellie flat vocals which may be fine for her own songs but for a song like Your Song, it just seems to be a mismatch.

It is an unfortunate mismatch that neither does anything for the song nor the ad that it is for. It's more of a Christmas turn-off rather than Christmas turn off. Ellie fans will more than likely enjoy but other listeners and fans of the original will cringe
