It’s been a few years since we’ve crossed paths with Jedward (our last outing being just before the 2011 Eurovision song contest) but we’ve just come across the newest single from their fourth album (titled Free Spirit) called Ferocious.

It’s in the streams of pop and dance. But the vocals sound more mature than our last crossing. And maybe that’s in part that the song was inspired by fans who letters about their problems. And in true agony…uncle(?) style, the following lyrics are found: Life is never easy/Don’t ever pack it in/Deal with all the highs and lows/ Don’t let them say you can’t.

To be honest, it actually a decent track although we do have a small issue with the repetitive nature of part of the chorus (Ferocious/Ferocious/I will be ferocious) which does fell a wee bit like they couldn’t think of anything else to put here.

Maybe the boys have turned a new leaf. Only time will tell.

Europe prepare yourselves for a Jedward invasion! This duo are representing Ireland in the Eurovision song contest. So what is their offering like

Well first off, it's not a cover!Recovered? Good. Now imagine the melody of Britney's 'Womanizer'. Add Jedward vocals. Yes you've just got the song. So a song that's not a cover and sounds like Britney? Good combination, right? Not quite. The vocals are heavily autotuned meaning that you're still not hearing the real Jedward. Had this song been sung by anyone else, particularly someone just starting out, they'd probably get away with it

Let's look at the song on two bases. As a Eurovision entry, it's the sort of thing that you would expect. As an actual single, probably shouldn't been made. The only thing worth of any listen is the instrumental.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, Jedward are releasing an album. If two singles weren’t enough to put you off, then this probably will.

First impression is that the twins have been stuck in a recording studio and then sung along to the karaoke tracks that you’d find down your local (this is not a dig at karaoke tracks. Some are very good), not something that you would expect.  It’s like something that you might find an amateur recording…

Anyway, moving on. The album itself is all covers including both singles (Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) and All The Small Things) and the infamous cover of  Ghostbusters. Of course, you can expect the cheesy covers as well (I Want Candy, I Like To Move It and Pop Muzik) Vocally, some tracks seem to be okay whilst others notes seem to be flat or completely off tune. It also seems that in almost every track they either have to mention Jedward or John or Edward as if we don’t know who singing.  Again on the vocals, in a  studio setting no problems, but as we’ve already seen and heard, singing live seems to prove a difficulty. There’s no attempt at making the songs their own, purely just covering them an attempting to make them sound like he original.

Sadly, it’s a known fact that this album will sell thanks to the army of Jedward fans out there, although any one with an ear for decent music will give it a wide berth.

Jedward // Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)

Brace yourself! The twins have released a single! Just when you’d thought you’d seen the last of them, they go and release a version of  Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) as performed on X-Factor. Except this time, they’ve got Vanilla Ice himself on the record. Unfortunately though, doesn’t help them out any. It’s still nails on a chalk board and the video proves that their chorography hasn’t improved either.

It feels as if these boys are being given false hope that they have any chance at a proper career in the music business. They are a novelty act that can only run so long before something more interesting comes along.

Fans will rush out and buy this but anyone with an ounce of sense will avoid this like the plague!
