We didn’t realise this, but apparently Next To Me is actually the 3rd single from Scottish born singer/songwriter Emile Sande (her last single Daddy apparently didn’t do very much whilst debut single Heaven still rings in our heads)
It’s different from her previous release which felt more dance orientated, as this comes across as more ballady. This, in turn, gives her the opportunity to show what she can do with her vocal ability and shows that she’s not just capable to doing one style of singing. To compliment the ballady feel, you’ll find that it’s piano driven and completed with harmonies provided by a gospel choir.
Having written for other artists including Professor Green (who she just happened to guest vocal on Read All About It), Cheryl Cole, Alesha Dixon, Leona Lewis & Susan Boyle, the song shows that she able to write openly and honestly. Nice to see another side to her.
